LEARN THE GREAT SPORT OF ROWING AS EARLY AS 6 GRADE

Learn to row with other middle-schoolers from all over the county.

Make new friends while you learn teamwork, discipline and good sportsmanship.  Did we mention the great time new rowers will have out on the water getting energizing exercise and maybe seeing a leaping dolphin or two?

Fall and Spring Sessions are limited to 40 rowers for safety. Each twice a week practice schedule (see below) is limited to 20 rowers. Get your registration in early; don’t miss out.


WHAT WILL PARTICIPANTS LEARN?
  • The value of teamwork, discipline and respect through the sport of rowing.
  • Sculling: rowing with two oars.
  • Sweep: rowing with one oar.
  • Rowing in small boats to the big boats with eight rowers.
  • The same rowing training as the Novice and Varsity teams, but at a less intense level.
  • Land training and conditioning.

WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE?
  • There are two sessions per year: Fall and Spring.
  • The 2011 Fall Session is from September 19th to December 17th.
  • The 2012 Spring Session is from January 9th to April 6th.
  • Practices are twice a week, with two options to choose from:
  • Monday and Wednesdays from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

WILL THERE BE RACING OPPORTUNITIES?
  • Fall Session participants will have the opportunity to race in the Intramural Regatta in December.
  • 8th graders with sufficient rowing skills may be accepted into the Youth Program and row in Novice or Freshman boats in regional regattas.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL ROWING PROGRAM?
  • Male or female students from 6th grade through 8th grade.
  • Ages 11 to 14.
  • Students from all schools are eligible to participate in the program.
  • No rowing experience is necessary.
  • Complete the MSP Registration packet and return per instructions.
